Concealed Window Hinges

Concealed window hinges – more precisely, a concealed hinge side – are integrated into the hardware system and remain out of sight when the sash is closed. Their main characteristic is a clean frame line combined with a hinge side designed for a specific hardware system.

There is no single universal concealed hinge. Before fitting, we identify the hardware manufacturer and series, profile, frame material, sash dimensions and sash weight. Only then can the technically appropriate solution be assessed.

Which windows can use concealed hinges?

Hardware manufacturers offer concealed hinge sides for selected tilt-and-turn windows in PVC, timber and aluminium, as well as suitable balcony-door constructions. The exact application depends on the system. Different product families can have different requirements for hardware axis, profile geometry, sash dimensions and permitted sash weight.

Can concealed hinges be fitted to an existing window?

Sometimes, but we do not treat conversion as a universal retrofit. A concealed hinge side works with the rest of the hardware system and the profile. Existing components are identified first and we check whether a compatible solution is specified for the particular construction.

We also do not assume that every conversion requires the same routing or milling. Preparation and fixing methods depend on the instructions for the specific system.

Do concealed hinges provide 3D adjustment?

Many modern systems provide adjustment in several directions, but the available range is not identical for every product. Manufacturers specify sash-position and compression adjustment for particular concealed hinge sides. Adjustment is therefore carried out according to the identified hardware system rather than the generic label “concealed hinge”.

If the main issue is a rubbing, dropped or poorly closing sash, the appropriate service may be window adjustment. This accessory page does not replace the general adjustment service.

Concealed hinges and sash weight

Load capacity is system-specific. Different manufacturer solutions have different limits depending on profile, frame material and any additional load-transfer components. We therefore do not publish one universal “up to X kg” figure for concealed hinges; permitted weight is checked against the documentation for the actual system.

Do concealed hinges improve burglary resistance?

The fact that a hinge side is concealed does not by itself give the window an RC resistance class. Concealed hinge systems can form part of tested burglar-resistant configurations, but classification belongs to the complete tested window construction. What if the hinge or hardware is already damaged?

A worn or damaged component requires a different type of work from fitting a design/system accessory. In that case we first diagnose the fault and route the job to window repair or the appropriate hardware service.
