Magnetic catches – when the window bangs or won't hold its position
Balcony doors that open in a gust of wind. A window that bangs loudly when closed. A tilted sash that drops. A magnetic catch and tilt restrictors solve these problems without touching the peripheral hardware.
Three problems – one solution
Window bangs when closed. The sash hits the frame with a loud thud. A magnetic catch draws the sash in smoothly before it strikes the frame.
Balcony door opens in wind. A gust pushes the sash when the handle is not locked in the hardware. A magnetic catch holds the sash drawn to the frame without turning the handle.
Tilted sash drops or won't hold position. If it drops – the hinge is losing its spring tension. If it doesn't hold the tilted position – a tilt stop is missing.
Types of catches and restrictors
Magnetic catch – magnet in the frame, metal plate in the sash. No mechanical wear. 15-minute fitting.
Tilt restrictor (fixer) – locks the sash in the tilted position. Available in fixed or adjustable variants. Recommended for windows in children's rooms.
Friction catch – adjustable resistance on closing. Used for balcony doors where a magnet has insufficient grip.
Fitting and compatibility
Magnetic catches fit most PVC, aluminium and wooden windows. Fitting does not require work on the peripheral hardware. Tilt restrictors are compatible with Roto, Siegenia, Maco and Winkhaus hardware.
Cost of catches and restrictors
Magnetic catch with fitting: from 60 PLN. Tilt restrictor: from 45 PLN. Friction catch: from 75 PLN. The technician arrives with several variants – one visit is enough.
What magnetic catches do we install?
Models selected to match the door type and mounting location
Floor-mounted catches
Installed in the floor directly beneath the door leaf. The magnet embedded in the floor grips a metal plate on the bottom of the door. Invisible once fitted — recommended for balcony and entrance doors.
Wall-mounted catches
Fitted to the wall on the side or back face of an open door. They hold the leaf in place when open and protect the wall from handle impact. Used on interior doors and doors to utility rooms.
Catches for balcony doors
Heavy-duty magnetic catches for balcony and terrace doors exposed to wind gusts. Magnet strength is matched to the weight of the door leaf and the building's wind exposure.
Stops for interior doors
Small magnetic or mechanical catches for interior doors — they prevent slamming in a draught and protect the wall from handle impact. Installed in just a few minutes.
Catches for heavy glass doors
Balcony and terrace doors with large glass panes are inherently heavy — a standard magnet won't hold them in a strong wind. We select magnets with the right holding force for the weight of the door leaf.
Replacement of worn magnets
Magnets weaken or corrode over time — especially on exterior doors. We replace them with new ones without needing to replace the entire fitting or door leaf.
Why Do Balcony Doors Slam and How to Prevent It?
Three things worth checking before installing a latch
Wind is the main cause of hardware damage
Balcony doors left open without a hold-open device can be slammed shut by a sudden gust of wind. Repeated slamming damages hinges, frame corners and sash corners — especially on PVC windows. A magnetic latch eliminates this problem without restricting how far the door can be opened.
Magnetic vs. mechanical door stop — the practical difference
A magnetic latch is silent, doesn't grip the sash and won't scratch the floor with frequent use. Mechanical stops (spring or rubber) can be noisy and over time leave marks on the floor. For balcony doors we recommend floor-mounted magnets for their durability and clean appearance.
Opening angle matters — not just for the magnet
The ideal opening angle for balcony doors is 90–120 degrees. At 90 degrees you get good airflow without overloading the hinges. Opening beyond 120 degrees on heavier sashes increases stress on the hinges — it's worth checking their condition when fitting the latch.
