Window gasket replacement – diagnostics, correct system and price
Window gasket replacement is appropriate when diagnostics confirms that a worn, damaged or permanently deformed gasket is actually responsible for the sealing problem. A draught alone does not prove this – similar symptoms may result from sash compression, hardware settings or leakage around the installation zone.
We therefore begin with free diagnostics and a free technician call-out. We identify the window system and sealing position before deciding whether the correct solution is gasket replacement, window adjustment, window sealing or another repair scope.
When should window gaskets be replaced?
- the gasket is cracked, torn or displaced from its intended position;
- the material is visibly hardened or permanently deformed;
- the gasket no longer recovers its shape or makes correct contact;
- a local draught is noticeable with the window closed;
- after correct adjustment, diagnostics confirms that the gasket remains the source of leakage.
We do not replace gaskets simply because a window has reached a particular age. The condition of the gasket, system construction and diagnostic findings determine whether replacement is needed – not a universal replacement interval.
Gasket replacement vs window sealing
Gasket replacement concerns sealing elements that form part of the window construction. If air leakage occurs at the connection between the frame and wall, trims or installation zone, window sealing may be the appropriate service. If leakage results from sash position or compression, adjustment may be required instead of gasket replacement or as part of a broader service scope.
This distinction matters because three different faults may all be described by a customer as “a draught”. Diagnostics should identify the location and cause of the leakage before material or repair work is proposed.
How do we select the correct gasket?
We do not select a gasket by appearance alone. We identify the profile system, window construction and specific sealing position. Different systems may use rebate seals, centre seals, glazing gaskets or solutions integrated with the profile, so a similar cross-section does not automatically mean interchangeability.
Where the gasket is designed to be replaceable, we use a new, original manufacturer gasket suitable for the identified system and sealing position. We do not install an arbitrary profile simply because it looks similar to the removed component. If the correct component must be ordered, we explain this after identification.
Not every gasket is replaced in the same way
Window systems use different sealing constructions. Some gaskets are installed as replaceable components, while other systems may use co-extruded or profile-integrated sealing solutions. Before removal, we therefore establish whether the sealing line is intended for service replacement and how the system is constructed.
This is also why we do not recommend pulling a gasket out solely to measure its cross-section. Incorrect removal can make identification more difficult or damage a component that was not intended to be replaced in that way.
EPDM, TPE and other sealing solutions
EPDM is used in many window systems, but it is not a universal name for every window gasket. Depending on the system, other elastomers and sealing constructions may also be used. Material, cross-section, installation method and number of sealing levels follow the specific construction.
We therefore do not begin with the assumption that “an EPDM gasket” is required; we identify the system and sealing position first.
How does gasket replacement work?
1. Sealing diagnostics
We inspect accessible sealing lines, sash-to-frame contact, hardware operation and the areas where the draught is felt. We establish whether the gasket is actually responsible.
2. System and sealing-position identification
We identify the window system and the gasket or sealing line that needs assessment. Only then do we select the part intended for the construction.
3. Removal and installation
Where the gasket is designed to be replaceable, we remove the worn component according to the system construction, prepare the installation area and fit the correct new gasket.
4. Final check
We check sash closing and gasket contact. If diagnostics also shows incorrect compression or hardware alignment, we agree the appropriate adjustment scope.
Do all gaskets have to be replaced?
There is no single rule for every system. The scope depends on the window construction, number of sealing lines, how they are formed and the condition of the individual components. In one system a specific worn gasket may be replaceable on its own; in another, the technically correct scope may be broader.
We therefore do not replace a complete set “just in case”, but we also do not promise replacement of only one section before the construction has been identified.
Will gasket replacement eliminate a draught?
It can when a worn or damaged gasket is the source and the remaining window components operate correctly. We do not promise improved airtightness from gasket replacement alone before identifying the cause. Hardware compression can affect sash-to-gasket contact, while leakage in the installation zone requires a different service.
Gasket replacement in PVC, timber and aluminium windows
We service sealing elements in supported PVC windows, timber windows and aluminium windows. Frame material alone does not identify the gasket – even systems from one supplier can use different sealing designs.
For timber windows, we provide functional repair and servicing of window components. We do not renovate, restore, sand or repaint timber frames. If several windows need broader diagnostics, window servicing may be an appropriate starting point.
What can you check yourself?
- Visible damage – cracks, tears, permanent flattening or a section displaced from its intended position;
- Flexibility – compare accessible sections without pulling out or cutting the gasket;
- Corners and joints – check for separation or tearing;
- Draught location – note where it is strongest to help compare the symptom with gasket contact and sash operation.
Brands and systems – the brand alone does not identify the gasket
We service constructions from a range of manufacturers and system suppliers including VEKA, Salamander, Aluplast, REHAU, Drutex, Oknoplast, MS Więcbork, Schüco and Aluprof. Where compression is involved, we also take the installed hardware system into account, including Roto, Winkhaus, MACO and SIEGENIA.
The window brand alone is not enough to select a gasket: different series, generations and construction variants may use different solutions. We identify the correct component before replacement.

Expert tips – Gasket replacement
How to recognise worn gaskets?
Visible cracking, tearing, permanent deformation, loss of flexibility or a gasket pulling away from its groove can indicate wear. A draught alone does not prove the gasket is at fault, because sash adjustment, hardware or the installation can also affect airtightness.
Does gasket replacement help in plastic windows?
Yes, if the gasket itself is the actual source of the problem. If sash compression is also incorrect, window adjustment may also be required. We define the scope of both services after diagnostics.
Can shop-bought materials be used for gasket replacement?
The gasket must correspond to the identified window system and the specific sealing position. Similar appearance alone is not enough for correct selection, so we identify the system and the correct gasket before replacement.
When should gaskets be replaced?
There is no single replacement interval for every window. Replace gaskets when diagnostics confirms that they are damaged, permanently deformed, hardened or no longer sealing correctly; age alone is not enough to determine replacement.
What if the problem returns after replacement?
If draughts or leakage remain after replacement, the source may lie elsewhere – for example in sash compression, hardware, the frame or the installation. We diagnose the cause and explain any additional work before proceeding.
