Window adjustment vs geometry correction

Many hardware systems provide defined adjustment points and ranges for sash position, hinges and locking. When the diagnosed problem falls within those ranges, standard adjustment is the appropriate service. Geometry correction is considered when correct hardware adjustment does not resolve the issue and sash position relative to the frame requires broader correction.

This remains a functional repair service, not cosmetic restoration or renovation of the frame. We do not sand, repaint or refinish frame surfaces as part of this service.

Similar symptoms can come from different faults. We therefore do not diagnose “geometry” from appearance alone or assume that the frame itself needs straightening.

How does window geometry correction work?

1. Sash and hardware diagnostics

We check rubbing points, sash position and the operation of hinges, locking points and strikers. We also assess whether the problem may instead involve a damaged component, a cracked profile or an installation issue requiring another type of repair.

2. Selecting the correct method

If the adjustment range provided by the hardware is sufficient, we do not expand the work unnecessarily. If adjustment alone does not solve the problem, further sash-position correction is matched to the actual cause and window construction.

3. Sash-position correction

We correct sash position within what is technically justified for the existing construction. Adjustment or geometry correction is not used to disguise a cracked profile, damaged hardware or an installation problem that needs separate repair.

4. Setting and functional test

After correction, we set relevant hardware where required and test opening, closing, locking and tilt operation where the construction provides that function. We assess how the sash now moves relative to the frame.

When is geometry correction not the right service?

Not every deformation or fault can be solved by changing sash position. A cracked or permanently deformed profile, damaged hardware or an installation issue may require another type of window repair or work outside this service scope.

For wooden windows, too, we provide functional repair rather than timber-frame renovation: we do not sand, repaint or restore the wooden frame finish.

Is geometry correction permanent?

Durability depends on the source of the problem. If sash position was the cause and it has been properly corrected, the service can restore correct operation within the possibilities of the construction. If diagnostics identifies a damaged component or installation issue, sash correction alone should not substitute for repairing the cause.

What can you check before the visit?

• Where the sash rubs – bottom, top or side of the frame;
• When the problem occurs – opening, closing, tilting or locking;
• Handle resistance – do not force it; note where resistance occurs;
• Visible damage – without dismantling anything, check for a loose hinge, damaged hardware, deformation or cracking.
