Custom Insect Screens for Windows

A window insect screen is intended to keep insects out while the window is open without interfering with normal window operation. A made-to-measure screen therefore needs to match the actual frame, opening method and available fixing space rather than the glass dimensions alone.

Before a solution is ordered, we measure the construction and check the components the screen must work around: the frame, sash, seals, hardware, any external shutter and other equipment around the opening.

Which insect-screen systems are used for windows and doors?

Several main system types are used on the market. The appropriate option depends on the construction and how the opening is used:

• Framed insect screen – commonly used on standard windows where there is suitable space for a stable frame.
• Retractable or roller screen – the mesh retracts into a cassette so the opening can be fully uncovered when required.
• Pleated screen – the mesh folds to the side and this type is often used on doors and larger openings.
• Sliding or door screen – an option for larger passages where the construction and available space allow it.

We do not assume every system is suitable for every window or door. The final type is confirmed after measuring and assessing the installation area.

Why is accurate measuring important?

The screen works with the frame and sash. An undersized element can leave gaps, while an unsuitable profile or fixing method can interfere with closing, window hardware or an external shutter. We therefore check the actual installation geometry and available fixing points before the screen is made.

Do insect screens affect airflow and visibility?

Mesh adds a layer across the opening, so it has some effect on airflow, light transmission and visibility. The degree depends on the particular textile, yarn dimensions and mesh structure. We therefore do not assign the same performance to every insect screen or claim that a screen has no effect on ventilation.

If an additional function is required, such as very high transparency or pollen reduction, that performance needs to be confirmed for the specific product. A standard insect screen is not automatically a pollen screen.

Insect screens for balcony doors and larger openings

For frequently used balcony doors or larger openings, size is only one factor. Direction of movement, available space and how often the passage is used also matter. Rather than assigning one screen type to every door, we select the system after the particular construction has been checked.

Can the mesh be replaced separately?

On some framed systems, worn or damaged mesh can be replaced without replacing the entire frame if the profile, corners and fixing components remain serviceable. We inspect the existing system before confirming the repair scope.

What if the window itself also needs service?

If the sash rubs, does not close correctly or operates abnormally, fitting an insect screen will not fix the underlying cause. Depending on the diagnosis, the correct route may be window adjustment, window service or window repair.
