Window Glass & IGU Replacement

Window glass replacement commonly means replacing the complete insulated glass unit when one pane has cracked or the sealed unit has failed and persistent misting appears between the panes. If the frame and sash remain serviceable, the whole window usually does not need to be replaced.

We begin with free diagnostics, measurement and a free technician visit. The new IGU is manufactured to the required specification, so the normal process involves a measurement visit followed by installation once the ordered unit is ready.

When is IGU replacement sufficient?

• a pane within the unit is cracked or mechanically damaged;
• persistent mist, moisture or droplets are trapped between the panes;
• streaks or discolouration appear inside the sealed cavity;
• damaged glazing needs to be restored while retaining a serviceable window construction.

Condensation on an accessible glass surface is not the same as moisture trapped between panes. Room-side or exterior condensation can have other causes, so we confirm where the moisture is located before ordering a new unit.

How does insulated glass unit replacement work?

1. Diagnostics and measurement

We inspect the visible condition of the unit, frame and sash and establish the dimensions and parameters required for the new IGU.

2. Specification and quote

We determine thickness, pane arrangement, cavity dimensions and relevant glass properties within the limits of the existing construction. We provide the price before ordering.

3. Manufacture to specification

The IGU is prepared to the agreed specification. Lead time depends on dimensions, construction, glass type and availability of the selected configuration.

4. Installation and check

On the installation visit we remove the old unit, install the new IGU with appropriate support and check sash operation. Adjustment is carried out only where it is actually required.

Double or triple glazing?

Pane count is only one part of IGU specification. Thermal performance also depends on glass type, low-emissivity coatings, cavity widths, gas fill and spacer construction. We therefore do not assign one Ug value to all double- or triple-glazed units.

Changing an existing double-glazed unit to triple glazing is possible only when the sash can accommodate it. Available thickness, glazing beads, additional glass weight and hardware capability must be considered, so we confirm feasibility only after measurement and assessment.

Which glass can be used in a new IGU?

Depending on the requirement and construction, an IGU may incorporate low-e glass, safety glass or glazing designed for improved acoustic insulation. Cavities may also use an insulating gas such as argon. Not every configuration is suitable for every window, so the specification is selected after measurement.

If the aim is to improve thermal or acoustic performance, we can discuss feasible glazing options, but we do not promise a particular heating-cost saving or noise reduction without performance data for the selected unit and complete window.

Does the whole window need replacing?

No, when the fault is confined to the IGU and the frame, sash and other components remain suitable for continued use. If diagnostics identifies a wider problem, we explain the appropriate window repair scope.

Gaskets and adjustment during IGU replacement

Glazing gaskets are not automatically replaced with every new IGU. We check their condition and system compatibility. If replacement is required, we use new, original components suitable for the identified system, taken from our stock or ordered from our suppliers.

Likewise, after installation we check sash operation, but window adjustment is carried out only when diagnostics and sash position show that it is required.

What can you check yourself?

• Locate the moisture – mist or droplets between panes indicate a different issue from condensation on an accessible glass surface;
• Inspect in daylight – cracks, streaks and internal discolouration can be easier to see from different angles;
• Do not press cracked glass – limit use of the damaged sash and do not attempt to remove glazing beads yourself.

PVC, timber and aluminium windows

We replace IGUs in different window constructions where their condition and glazing method allow correct removal and installation. The method depends on the actual system, so we do not assume one procedure for every window.

For roof windows or rooflights, serviceability is confirmed only after identifying the construction and carrying out diagnostics; we do not claim to service every roof-window system.

Brands and systems we work with

We work with constructions from a range of manufacturers and system suppliers, including VEKA, Salamander, Aluplast, REHAU, Drutex, Oknoplast, MS Więcbork, Schüco and Aluprof. When assessing the sash we also consider installed hardware, including Roto, Winkhaus, MACO and SIEGENIA.

The window brand alone does not determine the IGU specification. The new sealed unit is ordered according to measurements and parameters appropriate to the individual construction.
