Window Trickle Vents

Window trickle vents provide a designed path for outdoor air to enter occupied rooms. They are particularly relevant where airtight windows restrict infiltration and the building's ventilation system requires make-up air so that air can be removed through extract ducts or mechanical extract ventilation.

We do not treat a trickle vent as a universal cure for window condensation, indoor moisture or mould. Before fitting, we check the problem, the ventilation arrangement and whether window-based air supply is an appropriate part of the solution.

When does fitting a window trickle vent make sense?

Installation is worth considering when the ventilation system requires controlled outdoor air and the existing supply path is insufficient or has been reduced by very airtight windows. Symptoms such as condensation, stuffiness or elevated humidity do not by themselves prove that insufficient air supply is the cause.

If extract ventilation is ineffective, there is a leak, a thermal bridge or another moisture source, the vent does not remove that cause. The correct solution therefore begins by understanding the role of air supply in the complete ventilation system.

How does a window trickle vent work?

A vent creates a designed airflow path through the window. Delivered airflow and the control principle depend on the specific product. Market products include manually regulated, pressure-controlled and humidity-responsive designs. Airflow figures should always be tied to the particular model, configuration and operating conditions.

Trickle vents, condensation, humidity and mould

Improving appropriate air exchange can help reduce excess indoor moisture in some situations, but condensation also depends on surface temperature, indoor moisture generation and extract performance. We therefore do not promise that fitting a trickle vent alone will eliminate window condensation or mould.

Can a trickle vent be fitted to an existing window?

It is possible on many constructions, but not every vent or installation method suits every profile. Opening dimensions and positions depend on the instructions for the specific product and the window construction. Routing or milling should not be treated as one universal operation performed identically on every system.

Before fitting, we check the profile, relevant window components and the installation method required by the selected solution. If an existing vent is damaged, the correct route may be window vent repair rather than a new accessory installation.

Controlled air supply and an accidental draught are different issues. If air enters uncontrollably through gaps around the frame, the correct route may be window sealing. A trickle vent is intended to provide a planned air-supply path according to the needs of the ventilation system.
