If a balcony door has started rubbing against the threshold or frame, has become harder to close, or needs to be lifted slightly when closing, the sash may have moved out of its correct position. This does not automatically mean that a hinge is damaged. The cause may be hardware adjustment, sash geometry, hinge condition or another part of the mechanism.

We therefore start by checking what is actually causing the sagging or rubbing. If the components are in good condition and still have the required adjustment range, correcting the alignment may be enough. If a component is worn or damaged, the repair is matched to the specific hardware system.

How can you tell if a balcony door has sagged?

The problem often develops gradually. Common signs include:

• the lower part of the sash starts rubbing against the threshold or frame,
• the door no longer closes as easily as before,
• you need to lift or push the sash slightly when closing it,
• the handle becomes harder to operate,
• the gap between the sash and frame looks uneven when the door is closed.

Similar symptoms can have different causes, so the symptom alone does not determine which component needs adjustment or repair.

Why can a balcony door start to sag?

The sash is continuously supported and guided by the hinges and hardware. Its weight and the permitted load depend on the dimensions, glazing and the hardware system used. Over time the alignment can change and mechanical components can wear.

During diagnostics we check the sash position relative to the frame, the condition and available adjustment range of the hinges, the operation of the hardware, and whether there is excessive play or damage. This avoids replacing parts simply because the door has started rubbing.

When is adjustment enough, and when is repair needed?

Balcony door adjustment is appropriate when the hinges and hardware are serviceable and the problem is caused by sash alignment. The technician corrects the position within the adjustment range of the specific system and checks that the door opens, closes and locks without excessive resistance.

If diagnostics finds a worn or damaged component, adjustment alone may not solve the problem. In that case balcony door repair is needed and the relevant component is repaired or replaced as appropriate.

Can you check a sagging door yourself?

Without dismantling anything, you can make a few simple checks:

• look at the threshold and frame for fresh rubbing marks,
• try closing the door without lifting the sash – if it clearly needs help, the alignment should be checked,
• notice whether the handle still operates smoothly or requires more force than before,
• check whether the gap between the closed sash and frame looks reasonably even.

We do not recommend turning adjustment screws at random without identifying the hardware system. Adjustment methods and ranges vary between constructions.
