Sliding door hard to open – causes and repair
A sliding door that starts to require noticeably more force, jerks or jams part-way through its travel should have its mechanism checked. The cause may be dirt or damage around the track, wear in the running gear, incorrect adjustment or a hardware fault. Forcing a heavy sash is not a good way to diagnose the problem — the source of the resistance should be identified first.
PSK, HST or another sliding system?
Sliding doors do not all use the same mechanism. PSK parallel slide-and-tilt systems operate differently from HST/HS lift-and-slide constructions, and the design and adjustment of the running gear also vary between hardware systems. For that reason, a door that is hard to move does not automatically mean that its rollers are worn. We first identify the system and then assess the relevant components.
What can make a sliding door hard to move?
- Dirt around the running area — sand, dust and other debris can interfere with movement. Accessible tracks should be kept clean in accordance with the system manufacturer's instructions.
- Worn or damaged running gear — bogies and rollers operate under load. Wear can result in uneven movement, jerking or noticeably greater resistance.
- Incorrect adjustment — the sash may rub against the frame, threshold or a guiding component. The available adjustments and the correct procedure depend on the specific system.
- A mechanism or hardware fault — if the handle becomes difficult to operate, the sash does not move correctly between operating positions or the mechanism jams, the problem may be in the operating hardware rather than the track itself.
- Damage to a track or guiding component — deformation, looseness or mechanical damage can cause the sash to catch or jam at a particular point.
When is professional diagnosis worthwhile?
Common warning signs include a clear increase in the force needed to move the door, jerking, jamming at a particular point, unusual noises or a handle that has become harder to operate. A noise alone, however, is not enough to identify which component is at fault.
How do we check a sliding door?
We start by checking how the sash moves and identifying the type of sliding system. We then assess the tracks, running gear, hardware and adjustment. If the resistance is caused by dirt or alignment, the required work may be relatively minor. If a component is worn or damaged, we determine whether it can be repaired or needs to be replaced with a part suitable for that system.
After diagnosis, we explain the required work and provide a price before starting paid repairs. Many typical faults can be dealt with during the first visit, while less common systems or damaged components may require the correct replacement part to be identified and ordered.
What can you check yourself?
Without dismantling the door, you can remove loose dirt from accessible parts of the track and note whether the sash always catches at the same point. Do not force the door or apply an arbitrary lubricant — maintenance requirements depend on the construction and the manufacturer's instructions. If the resistance remains, the handle does not operate correctly or the sash keeps jamming, professional diagnosis is the safer next step.
Brands we work with
Regardless of the window or door manufacturer, we most often service wear-and-tear components that naturally degrade over time.
- VEKA, Salamander, Aluplast, Rehau – European PVC systems, among the most commonly found in Polish residential construction.
- Drutex, Oknoplast, MS Więcbork – Polish manufacturers found in newer residential developments.
- Schüco, Aluprof – aluminium windows and HST patio doors used in modern construction.
- Roto, Winkhaus, Maco, Siegenia – manufacturers of hardware and multi-point locking systems.
- Velux, Fakro – roof windows commonly installed in detached houses.
We use original spare parts or high-quality replacements — depending on the manufacturer and component availability.
How does our service work?
The service process is simple and transparent — six steps from first contact to warranty:
- Contact – fill in a short form or call us. We call back within approximately 15 minutes.
- Free on-site diagnostics – a technician arrives at the agreed time and assesses the condition on site.
- We explain the cause – we show you exactly what needs to be repaired.
- We present the cost – after diagnostics we provide an exact quote. No hidden fees.
- We carry out the repair – after your approval we complete the work, most often during the same visit.
- You verify the result – we test the outcome together. You receive a service report, a warranty on the work performed, and the manufacturer's warranty on original parts.
Where do we repair sliding doors?
We service sliding doors within our operating regions in Poland. You can check the current coverage on our Cities page.
How much does repair cost?
The cost depends on the type of system, the cause of the resistance and whether cleaning or adjustment is sufficient or a component needs repair or replacement. Diagnostics and the technician's call-out for assessment are free. We provide a quote for approval before starting paid work. Indicative service prices are available on our pricing page.
Expert tips – Sliding door hard to open
Can I try to repair it myself?
You can remove loose sand and dust from accessible parts of the track and check whether the sash always catches at the same point. Do not force the door, adjust the mechanism at random or apply an arbitrary lubricant without guidance for the specific system.
How long does the repair take?
Many typical faults can be resolved during the first visit, but the time required depends on the system, the cause of the resistance and the scope of work. If a required part is not available on site, the next repair step is agreed after diagnostics.
Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes. We provide a written guarantee of up to 5 years on completed work; the exact scope depends on the service performed and the components used.
Is the diagnostics paid?
Yes. Diagnostics and the technician call-out to assess the required work are free of charge. If a paid repair is needed, we provide a quote for approval before starting the work.
What if the problem comes back?
If the problem appears again after the service, contact us. We will review the issue within the scope of the guarantee provided and determine the appropriate next step.

Questions about sliding doors that are hard to move
Common customer questions
Yes. Diagnostics and the call-out to assess the required work are free. If a paid repair is needed, we provide a quote for approval before starting the work.
Possible causes include dirt around the running area, worn running gear, incorrect adjustment or a mechanism fault. The symptoms can overlap, so the system and its components should be checked before deciding on the repair.
No. The cause may instead be dirt, adjustment or another part of the mechanism. We recommend replacing bogies or rollers only when diagnosis shows that they are worn or damaged.
You can remove loose sand and dust from accessible parts of the track. We do not recommend applying an arbitrary lubricant without checking the instructions for the specific system, because maintenance requirements vary between constructions.
The cost depends on the system and the cause of the problem. After free diagnostics, we explain the required work and provide a quote before starting paid repairs. Indicative prices are available on our pricing page.
