Window letting in cold – what is the cause?
Feeling cold draught from a closed window? Heat loss through windows often costs hundreds of zlotys per year. Seals, adjustment or glass unit – we repair from 50 PLN.
A window loses heat through three pathways: worn or damaged perimeter seals, misaligned hardware (sash not pressing firmly against the frame) or an expired glass unit with failed thermal insulation.
The technician checks all three areas in one visit. Cold from the glass surface – a glass unit to replace. Draught from the frame edge – a seal or adjustment issue. In most cases repair completes in one visit, ending the draught and the expensive heating bills.
Why does the window let cold in?

Worn perimeter seals
EPDM seal rubber loses elasticity after 8–12 years and no longer seals the sash-to-frame joint. Cold air enters along the full perimeter. Seal replacement is the cheapest and most effective solution.
Incorrect compression adjustment
If the cams in the catches are set incorrectly, the sash does not press the seal hard enough. This results in a micro-gap along the frame – felt as cold air even though the window appears closed. Hardware adjustment restores correct compression.
Old glazing unit with aluminium spacer bar
Units installed before 2010 often have an aluminium spacer bar, which is an excellent conductor of cold. Result: glass is cold near the edges, condensation collects on the sill. Replacement with a TGI or warm-edge spacer unit solves the problem.

The technician checks seal compression with a paper card at several points around the perimeter. The card should resist being pulled out. No resistance means worn seals or incorrect adjustment.
Seal and hardware assessment
Visual check of seal elasticity and continuity. Assessment of catch and hinge settings. Identification of visible gaps or damage.
Glazing unit assessment
Check for condensation inside the unit (damaged spacer), whether the spacer is aluminium or TGI, and how old the unit is.
