GEZE Window Drive Service – Diagnostics, Scope and Safety
GEZE manufactures door automation, door closers, sliding-door systems and electric window drives. Its IQ windowdrive family includes products such as the Slimchain and Powerchain chain drives and the E 250 NT spindle drive. Before service work is defined, we identify the exact product, variant, power supply, control arrangement and function of the installation.
We service selected GEZE window drives, not the brand's entire building-automation portfolio. We do not claim to service GEZE automatic entrance doors, door closers or PERLAN manual sliding-door systems. HST / lift-and-slide systems are also outside this scope. If a drive forms part of a smoke and heat extraction or other fire-safety installation, the system function, documentation and required level of competence must be assessed separately before any intervention.
How can you tell which GEZE product is installed?
- Slimchain – a chain drive for electrically operated windows. GEZE offers a 24 V version for applications including ventilation and smoke and heat extraction, as well as a separate Slimchain 230 V version for natural ventilation.
- Powerchain – a chain drive intended, among other applications, for large and heavy window elements and large opening widths. It can be used for ventilation and suitably configured smoke and heat extraction applications.
- E 250 NT – a 24 V spindle drive for several window types, including side-hung, bottom-hung, top-hung and roof windows. GEZE specifies applications in both natural ventilation and smoke and heat extraction.
- PERLAN – a family of manual sliding-door fitting systems. It is not the name of a PVC-window hinge or a window drive.
- TS – a designation used in GEZE door-closer families, such as TS 4000. These products are not standard window perimeter hardware.
The GEZE logo alone therefore does not identify the required repair. A clear photograph of the label, the full model designation and information about the window's function are much more useful than the brand name by itself.
Which symptoms justify window-drive diagnostics?
- the drive does not start opening or closing;
- the sash stops before reaching the expected position;
- movement has become uneven or unusual noises have appeared;
- the system does not respond to a command or reports a fault;
- a cable, mounting point or component associated with the drive appears damaged.
None of these symptoms proves that the motor itself has failed. The cause may involve the power supply, controls, configuration, wiring, mounting, drive unit or the mechanics of the sash. For that reason, we do not select replacement parts solely from a description such as “the GEZE drive does not work”.
How do we diagnose a GEZE window drive?
1. Identify the drive and variant
We check the product designation and, where available, the information on its label. Distinguishing a Slimchain 24 V from a Slimchain 230 V matters because the variants use different power supplies and are intended for different applications.
2. Establish the function of the installation
We determine whether the window is used only for ventilation or whether the drive is connected to building automation or a safety system. Slimchain, Powerchain and E 250 NT drives can appear in configurations associated with smoke and heat extraction, so the system function must not be inferred from the drive model alone.
3. Perform a mechanical and visual check
We assess sash movement, mountings, accessible drive components and the visible condition of the wiring. An electric drive should not be expected to overcome a mechanically blocked or defective window.
4. Check operation within a safe scope
Where the installation function and conditions allow, we check its response to controls and behaviour during the operating cycle. We do not bypass safety devices or alter fire-safety system parameters without first confirming the configuration and applicable requirements.
5. Decide the appropriate next step
After diagnostics, we determine whether the fault is within our standard service scope, whether a compatible component is needed, or whether the installation requires specialist automation or fire-safety-system service. We do not promise that every GEZE drive can be repaired during a single visit.
Ventilation or smoke and heat extraction – why does the distinction matter?
The same drive family can be used in different applications. GEZE specifies ventilation and smoke and heat extraction applications for the 24 V Slimchain, Powerchain and E 250 NT. The separate Slimchain 230 V version is presented for natural ventilation. This is why the service assessment must identify both the drive model and the role of the complete installation.
If the window forms part of an RWA / smoke and heat extraction system, we treat it as part of a safety installation rather than as an ordinary electrically operated window. The permissible service scope then depends on the documentation, configuration and maintenance or inspection requirements of that system.
What should you send us before the visit?
- A photograph of the drive and its label – ideally with the model designation clearly readable.
- A photograph of the complete window – this helps show the mounting arrangement and sash type.
- A description of the symptom – for example, whether the drive does not move, stops part-way, works in only one direction or behaves intermittently.
- Information about the controls – push button, control unit, building automation or another activation method.
- Information about the function – if known, whether the window belongs to a ventilation, RWA / smoke-extraction or other safety system.
This information helps us assess whether the request is likely to fall within our scope, but it does not replace on-site diagnostics.
What can you check safely yourself?
You can record the model designation, visually check for an obvious obstruction to sash movement and note the point in the operating cycle where the problem occurs. Do not dismantle the drive housing, interfere with the electrical installation, bypass safety devices or change control parameters without the appropriate documentation and competence.
Brands we work with
Regardless of the hardware manufacturer, we most often service wear-and-tear components that naturally degrade over time.
- VEKA, Salamander, Aluplast, Rehau – European PVC systems, among the most commonly found in Polish residential construction.
- Drutex, Oknoplast, MS Więcbork – Polish manufacturers found in newer residential developments.
- Schüco, Aluprof – aluminium windows and HST patio doors used in modern construction.
- Roto, Winkhaus, Maco, Siegenia – manufacturers of hardware and multi-point locking systems.
- Velux, Fakro – roof windows commonly installed in detached houses.
We use original spare parts or high-quality replacements — depending on the manufacturer and component availability.
How does our service work?
The service process is simple and transparent — six steps from first contact to warranty:
- Contact – fill in a short form or call us. We call back within approximately 15 minutes.
- Free on-site diagnostics – a technician arrives at the agreed time and assesses the condition on site.
- We explain the cause – we show you exactly what needs to be repaired.
- We present the cost – after diagnostics we provide an exact quote. No hidden fees.
- We carry out the repair – after your approval we complete the work, most often during the same visit.
- You verify the result – we test the outcome together. You receive a service report, a warranty on the work performed, and the manufacturer's warranty on original parts.
Where do we diagnose GEZE window drives?
We provide diagnostics for selected GEZE window drives in Warsaw, Krakow and Katowice, as well as other locations within our active service regions. See the cities we serve →
How much does GEZE window-drive diagnostics and service cost?
On-site diagnostics and technician call-out are free. We do not publish a single starting repair price for a GEZE window drive before the model and fault have been identified. Paid work depends on the configuration, cause of the fault, required parts and actual service scope; we provide the exact quote before paid work begins.
After registration, we contact you within about 15 minutes to collect information about the installation and agree the next step.
Expert Tips – GEZE Window Drives
Is PERLAN a GEZE window hinge?
No. PERLAN is a family of manual sliding-door fitting systems. GEZE window drives are a separate product group that includes products such as Slimchain, Powerchain and E 250 NT.
Does every Slimchain use the same power supply?
No. GEZE offers, among other variants, a 24 V Slimchain and a separate Slimchain 230 V. The exact variant and system function should be identified before diagnostics.
Can every GEZE drive be repaired on site?
That cannot be promised before diagnostics. The answer depends on the model, fault, control configuration, parts availability and whether the drive belongs to a safety system requiring specialist service.
What should I send before the visit?
A clear photo of the drive label, a photo of the complete window, a description of the symptom and information about the controls and, if known, the function of the installation.
Can I change the drive settings myself?
We do not recommend changing parameters or bypassing safety devices without the appropriate documentation and competence, especially in installations connected with fire safety.

GEZE Window Drive Service FAQ
Most common customer questions
On-site diagnostics and technician call-out are free. We do not state a single starting repair price before the model and fault have been identified. We provide the exact quote for paid work after diagnostics and before the work begins.
Check the full designation on the housing or label and take a clear photograph. GEZE window-drive products include Slimchain, Powerchain and E 250 NT. PERLAN belongs to sliding-door systems, while TS series products are door closers.
No. They are separate variants with different power supplies and application scopes. We therefore identify the exact model, voltage and system function before service work is defined.
We do not treat them as ordinary ventilation drives. If the device forms part of an RWA or other fire-safety system, we first establish its function, documentation and required level of competence; where necessary, specialist system service is required.
That cannot be assumed before diagnostics. The solution depends on the model, cause of the fault, control configuration, availability of compatible parts and function of the complete installation.
We contact you within about 15 minutes after registration to collect information about the drive, confirm whether the installation falls within our scope and discuss appointment availability.
