Aluminium Windows – When to Repair, When to Replace?
Repair – it is enough:
- Worn hinges or a sagging sash – aluminium window adjustment usually solves it.
- Seals that have lost elasticity – EPDM gasket replacement restores the seal for another 10 years.
- Perimeter hardware seizing or corroding – replacement or servicing of locking hardware.
- Mist between panes – glass unit replacement, same as PVC.
Consider replacement – if:
- The profile has no thermal break (cold bridge) – thermal performance cannot be improved without replacing the frame.
- Galvanic corrosion has damaged the profile – white, porous corrosion eats into aluminium and weakens the structure.
- The window is from the 1990s and does not meet current thermal insulation standards.
Wooden Windows – When to Repair, When to Replace?

General rule: replace a wooden window only if:
- Rot covers the frame corners or more than 30% of the profile cross-section.
- The sash is permanently warped and will not close even after hinge adjustment.
- The wood is completely rotten – a scraper enters it without resistance.
